EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

EU Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE)
The EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive affects all businesses producing, vending, sel-ling, recycling, or processing electric and electronic equipment for sale to customers on European Union territory. The directive aims at reducing the volume of waste electric parts by means of customer information and improvements in the efficiency of collection and recycling of scrap hardware.

The Directive requests manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers to:

• Make sure that all equipment imported into the EU after August 13, 2005, is marked with the recycling icon.
• Register themselves by the Executive Body of the respective member state pursuing the timetable locally applicable.
• Subscribe to a collection and recycling system pursuing the timetable of the respective member state.

December 31, 2006, is the deadline for manufacturers to reach a number of collection and recycling targets. The FANTEC GmbH has cooperated with its suppliers, distributors, partners, and customers to make sure to fullfil the WEEE directive on time.

EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS)

EU Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS)
The Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS), as a European Union (EU) directive, has been transposed into national law. This Directive affects all manufacturers of electrical and electronic hardware containing lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

Strict limits have been defined for the use of these substances in all products imported into the EU starting on July 1, 2006. Together with their suppliers, FANTEC have made sure that all FANTEC products comply with the RoHS Directive starting on July 1, 2006 and all production processes have been adapted beforehand.
